Arrived Spring 2019

May 2019

The Sd.Kfz. 251 (Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251) half-track was a World War II German armored fighting vehicle designed by the Hanomag company, based on its earlier, unarmored Sd.Kfz. 11 vehicle. The Sd.Kfz. 251 was designed to transport the Panzergrenadier (German mechanized infantry) into battle. Sd.Kfz. 251s were the most widely produced German half-tracks of the war, with at least 15,252 vehicles and variants produced by seven manufacturers.

In January of 2019, unit members Christof Baumer and Heinrich Wilsdorf entered in a partnership with the current vehicle owner and transferred the vehicle from Minnesota to Indiana.   The reproduction SdKfz 251 is based on the post-war Czech OT-810 and currently runs on a diesel engine.  Upgrades and modifications as well as much needed maintenance is currently ongoing with the Frundsberg 251, or as well call her, "Erika".
The 251 has arrived finally from her long trek from Minnesota, unit members welcome her upon arrival in Elkhart, Indiana, her first pit stop before being moved to Indianapolis, Indiana later in the Spring.
10th SS Frundsberg is currently accepting new members from the Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan area.  Click here to learn more.
